As a seasoned restaurant chef with over a decade of experience, I’ve enjoyed working with various cookware. I have tested different kitchenware, including dutch ovens, and the most recent one I put to the test is the Crock Pot Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven.

Crock-Pot is an iconic brand that has been around for a long time. I was searching for new recipes when I first discovered Crock Pot Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven. Aside from its vibrant colors, this pot caught my attention as it is renowned as the original slow cooker. What makes it stand out more is that it is more affordable compared to other dutch ovens in the market.

Materials

The Crock-Pot Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven boasts a robust construction. Cast iron is an ideal cookware material because it has outstanding heat retention and distribution properties, ensuring that heat is dispersed uniformly across the cooking surface.

The enameled coating on the interior and exterior not only provides a touch of elegance but also prevents rust and makes cleaning effortless. It is indeed suitable for cooking our braised short ribs.

Heat Retention of Crock Pot Dutch Oven

The Crock Pot Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven genuinely shines when it comes to heat retention. It keeps a steady temperature, which I find great for slow-cooking foods like our Red Wine Braised Short Ribs. The moderate, consistent heat ensures the ribs are tender and flavors blend well.

Heat Compatibility

The Crock Pot Dutch Oven is compatible with different heat sources, including gas, electric, ceramic, and induction cooktops, which makes it versatile for any kitchen. It also works wonders in the oven, handling high temperatures without a hitch.

This dutch oven also has a stainless steel knob and is oven safe to 500°F (260°C). It is securely placed on the lid, which allows me to transition from stovetop to oven seamlessly. This versatility expands cooking possibilities, as I can use it for a wide range of culinary techniques. I was able to use it for baking, and I was impressed with the results.

Crock Pot Dutch Oven’s Lid Fit

The Crock-Pot Dutch Oven features a self-basting heavy lid, which is a remarkable feature. This lid not only ensures even heat distribution but also retains moisture, contributing to the exceptional quality of your dishes. It seals well, allowing optimal cooking conditions without noticeable steam loss.

Handles and Product Design

overview Handles and Product Design of Crock Pot Dutch Oven

The Crock Pot Dutch Oven’s sturdy handles and ergonomic design make it easy to transport, even when it’s filled to the brim with a hearty stew. It is crafted to be functional and aesthetically pleasing.

However, it is essential to note that it can be quite heavy to lift. Compared to other dutch ovens I have tested, I find this one more challenging to maneuver and lift.

Testing Maintenance and Cleaning of Crock Pot Dutch Oven

It is recommended to handwash this dutch oven. You don’t have to worry, though, because cleaning it is a breeze, thanks to its enamel coating. Food residue doesn’t stick, and a simple soak and gentle scrub usually do the trick. However, like any other Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, I would advise against using metal utensils to prevent scratches.

Durability and Performance

In terms of durability, the Crock Pot Dutch Oven is built to last. It can handle frequent use, and so far, in my six months of using this dutch oven, I have not experienced chipping or cracking. Its performance is consistent, delivering exceptional results with every use.

Crock Pot’s Warranty

The Crock Pot Dutch Oven comes with a one-year warranty. It may not be as extensive as other dutch oven brands, but I think it is okay, given its price point.

It’s important to note that in my personal experience, I did not encounter these issues, but it’s essential to consider varying experiences. Additionally, one disadvantage I noticed is its weight, which, while inherent to cast iron, can be a minor inconvenience in some situations.

I haven’t heard a review of the Crock-Pot Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven from a renowned chef, but Forbes included it in their list of best Dutch Ovens in 2019.
